Mercuria challenges Baltic Exchange tanker benchmark in UK court, report says

Mercuria is suing the Baltic Exchange over its continued publication of the TD3C tanker freight benchmark, according to Financial Times reporting cited by BlockBeats on October 25. The report said the High Court is due to begin hearing the case on Monday.

Dispute over benchmark publication

Mercuria argues that disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz warranted suspending the index. It is now seeking a declaration that rates published since early March are invalid, after deleting the financial-loss portion of its filing, the report said.

The Baltic Exchange counters that short periods without activity on a route are not unusual and says some vessels continued to pass. It relies on experienced brokers to assess rates, according to the report.
