Ethereum core developers delayed the Hoodi testnet’s Glamsterdam upgrade to investigate smart-contract compatibility issues linked to EIP-8037, researcher Toni Wahrstätter said in an October 26 post reported by BlockBeats.
Gas-accounting assumptions
He explained that gas remaining can increase during execution under the change, breaking some contracts’ assumptions about gas accounting. This can trigger reverts, allow an unintended code path to run or cause usage to be undercounted.
Wahrstätter urged developers and auditors to check compatibility with EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. He said further investigation this week would inform the response, with options ranging from coordination among affected parties to possible protocol specification changes.
