Nada News, as relayed by BlockBeats, reported unauthorized access to a cloud desktop service under Japan’s GMO Group that could potentially affect up to 26,739 servers.
BTC and ETH ransom demand
Hackers demanded BTC and ETH, claimed GMO’s crypto exchange could prepare the funds and threatened abnormal transactions in victim accounts and public disclosure of user data. The demand was initially $50 million before being reduced to $1 million.
GMO representative Masatoshi Kumagai said the company would not compromise and made no payment. GMO Coin reported no abnormal customer-account operations. Hackers later published some data and threatened daily updates, while the leak-site domain was shut down early on October 28. Read the English BlockBeats flash (original Chinese: BlockBeats flash).
