OpenAI CEO Meets Samsung Executives as Memory Chip Supply Tightens

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met about 50 Samsung Group executives in South Korea on October 31 to discuss deeper cooperation in memory chips and AI infrastructure, Bloomberg reported through BlockBeats.

Memory supply under pressure

Attendees included executives from Samsung’s electronics, finance and biotech businesses. The talks covered AI’s effect on industries, corporate decisions and business opportunities over the next decade. The meeting came as global memory-chip supply remained tight and prices rose, while data-center demand intensified competition for chips.

Prior infrastructure cooperation

BlockBeats said the report put planned investment by the five largest AI-infrastructure players at more than $3 trillion over the coming years and said memory chips represent about one-third of data-center spending. It also cited earlier cooperation involving memory supply for OpenAI’s Stargate project and joint AI-data-center construction, including offshore floating facilities.

The report describes the meeting and prior cooperation; it does not announce a signed new agreement or confirm a new investment commitment by Samsung or OpenAI. Source: BlockBeats English flash, which attributes the report to Bloomberg, published October 31, 2026.
