Samsung Plans to Exit 8-Inch Foundry Business by 2030, Report Says

Samsung Electronics plans to phase out its 8-inch wafer foundry business by 2030 and shift its focus to 12-inch advanced processes, according to TheElec as cited by BlockBeats.

Capacity changes

The report said Samsung’s S7 plant at the Giheung campus could close in the second half of 2026, removing about 50,000 wafers of monthly capacity. Total 8-inch capacity would fall from 250,000 wafers per month to below 200,000, while utilization at the remaining S6 and S8 plants was about 70%.

Samsung foundry chief Han Jin-man described the 8-inch market as increasingly crowded and price-driven, according to the report.
