Treasuries Rise as Election Gridlock and Fiscal Constraints Support Bonds

U.S. Treasuries rose as investors anticipated political gridlock and constrained government spending if Democrats controlled Congress, while a stock-market decline increased demand for safe-haven bonds, BlockBeats reported.

Election and rates

The report said investors also considered whether AI regulation could slow growth and reduce pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates. Analysts said markets appeared relieved that President Donald Trump’s proposal to distribute $5,000 to every American adult might not be implemented.

Fiscal risk

BlockBeats said the proposed transfer would involve about $1.2 trillion, or 16% of the federal budget. Andrew Lilley, chief rate strategist at Barrenjoey, said the market had previously assigned only a 5% chance to the plan and that the risk had now disappeared; he warned implementation would trigger a catastrophic Treasury-market reaction.
