Zcash developers have agreed on a planned NU7 upgrade that would cut block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, according to a BlockBeats report published Oct. 21.
Planned activation and network changes
The upgrade is planned for block 3,543,405, estimated around Nov. 5. The report says the shorter interval would raise transaction confirmation speed to three times its previous level. It also says 60% of fees collected per block would leave circulation, with a plan to return them to miners from February 2031 while the existing halving schedule remains in place.
Proposal still needs implementation
The Sprout privacy system would be shut down after the upgrade, and funds not moved in time would become unusable, according to the flash. Developer Sean Bowe proposed the change and the Zcash Improvement Proposal editorial team agreed, but the proposal still needs formal inclusion in deployment specifications and integration into node software before it can take effect. These are reported plans, not a completed network upgrade.
