The Newton Foundation said tokens sent to the immutable NEWT contract during the Binance security incident are permanently locked and cannot be sold.
What the foundation reported
The foundation said the attacker appeared to have sent about 8 million NEWT and 17 other tokens directly to the NEWT contract, with a combined value of roughly $3.5 million at current prices. It said the contract itself was not compromised.
Newton said the contract has no owner or admin, its administrative rights were renounced onchain in 2025 and upgrades are disabled. It said those safeguards prevent anyone, including the foundation, from retrieving tokens sent directly to the contract.
The statement describes the foundation’s assessment of the contract and transferred assets; the dollar figure is a time-sensitive estimate. Source: FxTwitter mirror of Newton Foundation’s statement (original X link) and BlockBeats flash, published Oct. 30, 2026.
