Binance founder Changpeng Zhao denied that he threatened Elon Musk or suggested selling Binance’s SpaceX stake. In a clarification posted on October 31, Zhao said he mentioned the holding only to answer comparisons with FTX and show that Binance owns assets outside crypto.
Zhao’s clarification
Zhao wrote, “I never said ‘selling SPCX shares’,” using the spelling that appeared in his post. He said he does not make threats and that Binance’s holding is “a drop in the ocean” relative to the other party’s scale. He added that he considered the stock a long-term holding.
Earlier exchange
In an earlier reply, Zhao wrote that Binance’s “SPCX shares” came from a $500 million investment in Musk’s Twitter takeover and were worth more than $1 billion. He also asked Musk to show support. The later clarification addressed interpretations of that exchange; it did not report a sale of the shares.
BlockBeats identifies the holding as SpaceX shares and says the clarification was aimed at questions about Binance’s financial strength. The X posts themselves use “SPCX.” Sources: BlockBeats flash, Zhao’s clarification post via FxTwitter and the earlier post via FxTwitter, published October 31, 2026.
