RUNE Drops About 20% as THORChain Faces Binance-Hack Laundering Scrutiny

RUNE fell about 20% and briefly traded below $0.50 in HTX data cited by BlockBeats, as the Binance theft’s use of THORChain intensified scrutiny over security and regulation.

Reported laundering route

BlockBeats cited on-chain data saying funds tied to the theft moved through THORChain in about 2,697 deposits. The report put net swaps at roughly $48.3 million and funds received at $42.7 million, with about $5.7 million attributed to fees and slippage.

Pressure on a permissionless protocol

The FBI, U.S. Secret Service and IRS-CI were reported to have asked THORNode, RPC nodes and DeFi providers to block flows linked to North Korean hackers. THORChain co-founder Chad Barraford said node operators had no more information than the public and had not explicitly committed to proactive blocking. The transaction totals and statements are attributed to the cited sources; the flash did not provide transaction hashes.
