Coinbase Says More Than 99% of User Assets Are Held in Cold Wallets

Coinbase said more than 99% of user assets are held in cold wallets and that its systems and customer funds were unaffected by the earlier Binance hot-wallet incident, according to BlockBeats.

Custody controls

Coinbase said cold-wallet private keys are split into shards and are not fully reconstructed during signing. It also described withdrawal limits, anomaly monitoring, emergency stops and controls intended to prevent a single employee from accessing production hot-wallet signing services alone.

Reported asset figures

BlockBeats said Coinbase reported platform assets of $377 billion as of Sept. 30, 2026. The storage, security and asset figures are statements attributed to Coinbase; this report does not independently audit them.
