World Liberty Financial could become the first Trump-family crypto business examined by a Democratic-led House after the party regained control in the U.S. midterm elections, BlockBeats reported on Nov. 4.
Oversight focus
California Representative Robert Garcia is expected to chair the House Oversight Committee. He responded to the election result with “Lawyer up” and said the panel would examine the Trump family’s crypto transactions, Donald Trump Jr.’s business dealings and relatives such as Jared Kushner serving on boards or receiving contracts.
The report said Trump’s crypto-related businesses have generated more than $1 billion, according to Garcia’s claim. Democrats may focus on World Liberty Financial, including an Emirati royal family’s reported investment of about $500 million and the company’s application for a national bank charter that requires approval from U.S. Treasury agencies.
BlockBeats said Democrats plan inquiries and subpoenas into related companies and donors beginning next February. The report describes a potential oversight agenda; it does not establish that a formal investigation has begun.
