South Korea’s financial regulator chief said the government should consider multiple factors before imposing virtual-asset taxes planned for next year, BlockBeats reported, citing Yonhap.
Tax plan faces questions
Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Eok-won made the comment during a National Assembly audit. People Power Party lawmaker Song Eon-seok asked whether implementation should be abolished or postponed, arguing that lawmakers should first establish a Digital Asset Basic Act and clarify the assets’ legal nature and policy direction.
Legislation remains under discussion
Lee said digital-asset legislation was in its final consultation stage and that officials were still collecting views on taxation. Yonhap reported that the tax regime is scheduled for January 2027 after several delays. The comments describe an ongoing policy debate, not a change to the implementation date.
