A reported hacking attempt forced the U.S. Federal Election Commission to temporarily shut down its electronic filing system, disrupting campaign-finance disclosures ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
Previously filed reports remain available
FEC officials said attackers were attempting to breach agency systems. The outage temporarily prevented organizations from submitting legally required 24-hour and 48-hour expenditure reports, while previously filed reports remained accessible. The FEC said the outage did not affect voter balloting.
The report describes an attempted intrusion and service outage; it does not establish the attacker, data loss or a permanent compromise. Read the English BlockBeats flash (original Chinese: BlockBeats flash).
