Swiss AI lab Giotto said its Alto model inherited some weights from Moonshot AI’s Kimi after users flagged Alto’s self-identification, according to a Beating AI report relayed by BlockBeats. Giotto had presented Alto and Solo as sovereign European AI models hosted on European cloud infrastructure.
Model details remain undisclosed
Giotto co-founder and CEO Aldo Podestà said the team retrained Alto and added its own test-time compute technology. He did not identify the Kimi version or specify which weights were inherited. The report also cited Multiverse Computing’s Quasar 438B as a separate example of a European model whose underlying base was clarified after launch.
