Dallas Fed’s Logan Says Two More 25-Basis-Point Hikes Are Needed

Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan said the Federal Reserve should raise its policy rate by another 50 basis points through two 25-basis-point increases, then pause to assess economic and financial conditions.

Logan outlines her rate view

In remarks to Davidson College students, Logan said she voted to keep the federal funds target range at 3.75% to 4%. She said inflation remains above the Fed’s 2% goal while the labor market is balanced, and estimated that the current target range is at least 50 basis points below a level that would provide modest restraint.

Logan said the FOMC needs to implement at least two more 25-basis-point increases. After those moves, she said it would make sense to pause and examine economic and financial developments. She stressed that these are her views and do not necessarily reflect the positions of her FOMC colleagues.
