OpenAI will retire the legacy Mac client ChatGPT Classic on Jan. 30, 2027, according to a Beating AI News Flash report carried by BlockBeats. Users will need to move to the newer ChatGPT application, while existing chat history will remain available.
Desktop app transition
The report said OpenAI launched a redesigned desktop application in July. The new app replaces the native macOS client with Electron and brings Chat, Work and Codex into one desktop experience.
The retirement date and migration details are attributed to OpenAI through the BlockBeats report. The flash does not describe changes to account data beyond preserving chat history or provide a separate support timetable.
