Samsung Starts Equipment Investment at Texas Fab, Targets 2nm Output

Samsung Electronics has begun follow-on equipment investment at its Taylor, Texas, Fab 1 as it prepares for volume production, BlockBeats reported, citing Korean media. The plant is targeting monthly capacity of 20,000 2-nanometer wafers by the second half of next year, with the first equipment deliveries supporting about 6,000 wafers per month.

Fab timeline and customer commitments

Construction began in 2022 and Samsung has invested about $37 billion in Fab 1. The company plans to operate the facility by the end of 2026 and start EUV 2nm production in 2027. Reported 2nm yield has risen from about 60% early this year to roughly 80%. The fab already has full pre-production orders from Tesla, Broadcom and Arm; Samsung and Tesla signed a roughly $16.5 billion supply agreement in July 2025 running through the end of 2033.

Expansion keeps foundry competition in focus

Samsung plans to start building Taylor Fab 2 in early November. The second plant is expected to be about 1.5 times the size of Fab 1 and target 2nm output in 2030. The U.S. CHIPS Act has approved up to $4.745 billion in direct subsidies for Samsung’s investment. TrendForce data put second-quarter global foundry revenue shares at 72.5% for TSMC and 5.9% for Samsung.
