South Korea’s KOSPI was valued at 4.2 times expected earnings for the next 12 months, according to Bloomberg data cited in an Oct. 23 BlockBeats report.
The report described it as the first recorded case of a benchmark falling below five times forward earnings among 18 markets whose stock-market value exceeded $1 trillion at the start of the year.
Technology selloff weighs on valuations
The report linked pressure on Korean shares to technology selling as enthusiasm for AI cooled, despite strong chip demand at SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics. It cautioned that the low price-to-earnings ratio alone did not establish that the market had bottomed.
