SMFG Plans 5% Investment in SBI-Startale JV for Yen Stablecoin JPYSC

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group plans to invest about 5% in SBI Startale Marketing, a joint venture between SBI Holdings and Startale Group, according to a BlockBeats report citing NADA News coverage of Nikkei.

JPYSC expansion

The planned capital and business alliance would explore use of the Japanese yen stablecoin JPYSC in asset-management and payment services. The report says the joint venture is responsible for planning JPYSC applications and developing blockchain financial products.

Plans remain conditional

BlockBeats said the investment is expected to close soon and that Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation may consider JPYSC for future settlement. Those steps remain plans attributed to the cited reports.
