FT: China Gives Verbal Guidance to Pause IPOs and Large Share Sales

China’s securities regulator has given verbal guidance to pause corporate IPOs and large share reductions, the Financial Times reported, according to BlockBeats. The reported aim is to support a sluggish stock market, with the pause lasting until conditions stabilize.

Other stabilization measures

The China Securities Regulatory Commission, People’s Bank of China and National Financial Regulatory Administration also met securities firms and fund companies to discuss support measures. The report said the relending rate for stock buybacks and increases was cut from 1.25% to 1%, while swap-facility operations were expanded.

Informal guidance

China’s IPO financing this year has exceeded 292 billion yuan, the highest level since 2023, the report said. BlockBeats emphasized that the reported suspension relies on informal window guidance from people familiar with the matter; regulators had not publicly confirmed the measures.
