CNN: Senior Democrats Expect to Win House With Larger Midterm Majority

Senior House Democrats told CNN they expected to win control of the chamber in the midterm election and build a larger majority than the slim margin held by Speaker Mike Johnson, BlockBeats reported.

Seat estimates

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Democrats would win at least 218 seats, the threshold for a majority. Two senior Democratic sources put the likely result at 230 to 235 seats, while describing a 240-seat sweep as possible but much less likely.

Jeffries keeps a cautious tone

The report said Jeffries traveled from New York to Washington for lunch with party officials. The gathering place was also where Democrats ate on Election Day 2018, when they won control of the House by taking 41 seats. The figures are CNN-attributed expectations reported by BlockBeats, not a certified election result.
