S&P Global Ratings warned that local opposition and construction pauses could raise the risk of credit downgrades for U.S. data centers, according to an October 24 BlockBeats report.
Delays create contract risks
The analysis tracked 146 delayed or canceled U.S. data center projects, with roughly three-quarters linked to opposition from local residents. It also cited limited grid capacity, environmental concerns and zoning changes as sources of delay.
S&P said the actual effect on credit ratings has been limited so far. However, substantial project delays could require developers to offer rent credits or expose them to early contract termination by tenants, weakening project credit quality, the report said.
