Goldman data cited by BlockBeats show U.S. retail stock-trading activity fell about 45% from the end of 2025, with retail investors’ share of total U.S. equity volume dropping from 15% to about 9%.
Retail demand and equity supply
Goldman attributed the weaker buying appetite to higher energy prices, soft consumer confidence and rising Treasury yields. U.S. households still bought about $840 billion of U.S. stocks in the first half, while stock mutual funds and ETFs attracted about $350 billion year to date.
Goldman said 2027 U.S. public-equity net supply could post its strongest growth since 2000 as new issuance and lockup expiries add shares. The bank said household demand will be key to absorbing that supply.
