TechCrunch reported on October 28 that personnel information relating to more than 40,000 US Department of Homeland Security employees had been published online.
Okta told the outlet it had no evidence its own data or systems were compromised. A hacker using the name Department of Peace claimed to have obtained the records from an Okta single sign-on system used by DHS, according to the report.
TechCrunch checked part of the data
The outlet said it verified a portion by matching several known DHS employees against an offline copy of the database. DHS had not responded to its request for comment at the time of the report.
