Marvell is in advanced talks to acquire optical-device maker Lumentum in a possible all-stock transaction, Bloomberg reported through BlockBeats. No completed deal or regulatory approval has been announced.
Potential vertical integration
Cignal AI analysts Andrew Schmitt and Scott Wilkinson said the potential deal’s core logic would be vertical integration rather than a shortage of laser supply. They said combining Marvell’s digital signal processors with Lumentum’s lasers and optical components could support co-design, supply-chain control and more complete products.
Customer and scale risks
The analysts cautioned that a combined company could compete with existing optical-module customers. They also said optical communications depends on the ability to deliver products at scale, not only on launching first. Discussion of possible Nvidia participation was described as personal speculation, with no insider information cited.
