Intel Shares Plunge 28.58% as Weak Guidance Weighs on Investors

Intel shares fell 28.58% to $65.76 on Friday, their worst single-day performance since the 1970s, after the chipmaker gave weaker fourth-quarter guidance, BlockBeats reported.

Guidance misses consensus

Intel expects fourth-quarter revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion, below the LSEG consensus of $17.1 billion. Adjusted earnings per share are expected at $0.25, compared with an expected $0.43. CFO David Zinsner said the PC slowdown could last through the first half of 2027 as memory and other component costs rise.

Production disruption

BlockBeats also reported that an explosion at Intel’s Israel fab killed two people and seriously injured one. The resulting production halt affected 10-nanometer shipments, and Zinsner estimated a combined revenue impact of about $600 million over two quarters.

Foundry plans remain central

Intel’s 18A chips have entered mass production at its Arizona fab, but the report said they have no external customers yet. Chief Executive Lip-Bu Tan expects two customer announcements over the next two quarters and said 14A development is progressing.
