SpaceX is discussing a possible acquisition of EchoStar’s Boost Mobile wireless business or access to its network, according to a Washington Post report cited by BlockBeats.
Talks could extend Starlink Mobile’s reach
The discussions could support a Starlink Mobile service that combines satellite coverage with terrestrial cellular networks to compete with the three major U.S. carriers. The report said Boost’s existing network is mainly leased from AT&T and T-Mobile.
Any transfer of those network-leasing arrangements may require consent from AT&T and T-Mobile. EchoStar had about 7.38 million wireless users at the end of the second quarter, mainly through Boost Mobile and Gen Mobile, while Elon Musk met EchoStar Chair Charlie Ergen last month. The talks do not confirm that a transaction will close.
