U.S. Futures Rebound After Midterm Vote as Hedge Unwinding Eases Risk Premium

After U.S. midterm results were released, Nasdaq 100 futures fell 2.4% on election night before turning up 0.9% and rebounding about 929 points from the intraday low. S&P 500 futures rose about 1%, while Dow futures gained about 700 points.

Analyst explanation

Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank analysts attributed the rebound mainly to unwinding concentrated pre-election hedges after the results became clear and to lower political uncertainty. The flash also identifies data-center permitting and debt-ceiling negotiations as policy risks for the market.
