A whale that opened five U.S.-stock contract shorts during a morning decline covered them into an afternoon rebound, realizing a combined loss of about $220,000 on roughly $17.33 million in turnover, TradingBeats monitoring showed, according to BlockBeats.
Shorts opened after the drop
The positions covered SpaceX, Tesla, Amazon, Microsoft and Meta. SpaceX and Tesla had already fallen about 3.6% and 2.7% when the whale began shorting, and the trader added to those shorts before opening positions in the other three contracts.
The whale’s average opening prices for the SpaceX and Tesla shorts were $133.13 and $381.15, just 1.1% and 0.7% above the morning lows. It covered them at average prices of $135.08 and $384.22, recording losses of about $108,800 and $48,300. The Amazon, Microsoft and Meta positions lost about $24,700, $21,400 and $16,800.
The figures describe realized trading losses on the reported contract positions, rather than liquidation or unrealized losses.
